地方志条目遵循戴思哲的《古代中国地方志的编纂、刊刻与阅读,1100—1700》第343页(Dennis, Local Gazetters, 343)的原则;除了带有前缀(例如“重修”或某个年号)的地方志书名只列出一次并且省略前缀。在列出稀见文献时,我都附上了发现该文献的地点。
族谱条目包含了尽可能多的信息:名目、刊行年份或最近写成序言的年份,以及所有出版信息。族谱几乎都是多人合力编纂而成的,因此一般没必要附上编纂者姓名。至于未出版或私人印制的族谱(大多数族谱都属于此类),我则注明自己抄写族谱或做笔记的地点。
碑刻条目篇名、刻写日期以及其目前的所在地。
如果文献的名目为一般人所熟知,我便会省略该文献的作者。
